Ermolia Today
Shriners Springfield Massachusetts Hospital is my second home. The first time I visited was at the age of two, and every year I have kept on going until I reached 18 years of age. Initially, I started going for treatments and splints, and then for surgeries.
Words cannot adequately express the gratitude and love I have for the entire medical team which includes the nursing, as well as administrative and secretarial staff of the hospital. Each and every staff member knows how to behave with patients and treat a child and its family. They make every effort to ensure the patient journey is a positive experience. No other hospital I have visited has had such an interest in the physical, emotional, mental and family condition of a child.
Always wearing their brightest smile, the employees do whatever they can to alleviate the difficulties encountered when a patient is receiving a treatment or undergoing a surgery. Also, the hospital is a beautiful place to be, full of liveliness and warmth. One can say that it’s more of a playground than a hospital.
Both the hospital and its people have radically changed my life in the most beautiful and positive way. I would not change anything about my overall experience there.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that my health adventure at 11 years old changed my life completely. Thanks to the constant support and help from the Paraskevaides Foundation to me and my family and with the close cooperation with the Shriners Hospital in Springfield I now have a healthy standard of living and I work as a clinical orthotist / prosthetist which I absolutely love.
My diagnosis was osteomyelitis of the left leg. Undoubtedly, the care of the medical and nursing staff at the hospital was excellent. The knowledge and diligence towards the sacred purpose of medicine was excellent as was the result.
To this day my memories of the hospital are super positive despite the seriousness of the condition and the fact that amputation was the prevailing scenario. Undoubtedly the medical approach of doctors and therapists at Springfield Hospital was key to the successful outcome. To date with my work as a clinical orthotist, prosthetist they are the example to follow.

“Our patients inspire us to provide the most amazing care.”
The mission of Shriners Hospitals is to: Provide the highest quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries, and other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered, and collaborative care environment.
Our collaboration with Shriner’s orthopedic specialists began in 1981. The Foundation is the only non-American approved “Shriners Examination Center”, where children from all over the world are able to receive examinations from Shriners medical professionals. Their annual visits to Cyprus have helped to solidify the partnership between their esteemed institution and our Foundation.
The examinations by Shriner’s doctors take place within the Foundation, in order to provide the best quality healthcare services for the young patients, in a safe and familiar environment to them and their parents.
Since then, countless Cypriot children diagnosed with urgent medical cases have been sponsored for treatment in the USA by the George and Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation.
