The Director of the Prosthetic and Orthotic rehabilitation department of the famous Shriners Hospitals, Mathew Brock McConkey, travelled within the last 4 months for the second time to Cyprus, to offer high level care to children who were judged to need prosthetic limbs, splints and other orthopaedic rehabilitation aids.

The visit took place within the framework of the cooperation of the George & Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation with the US Shriners Hospitals from Monday 24th April 2023 until Thursday 27th of April, in order to apply the necessary aids to 33 children from Cyprus, Lebanon and Syria. The procedure took place in the specially designed space within the Paraskevaides Foundation with the help of a Cypriot expert.

Thanks to the George and Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation, the orthopedic doctors of Shriners Hospital, during the 40 years of this collaboration, have examined more than 16,000 children to date and more than 4,000 children have been sent to America for further examinations, surgeries and hospitalization.

Children who need specialized treatment are sent – regardless of whether their family has the ability to pay the required amount – by the George and Thelmas Paraskevaides Foundation, to Shriners hospitals in America, for operations and recovery.
